In lieu of the TeenNow California Northern conference, which was cancelled due to low registration, we are hosting a Virtual Event, which is free to all participants, that will begin the process of creating a plan to address teen sexual health and teen parent support in the wake of devastating budget cuts. The event will feature a panel of leaders from across California who will discuss the state of teen health as it stands after the budget cuts, and talk about how we can ensure that all the ground we’ve gained over the last decade and a half isn’t lost.
Budget cuts haven’t only eliminated or cut back on programs to young people, it has also forced the layoff of thousands of people—experts in the field of teen parenting, pregnancy and STI prevention. When programs close their doors, the knowledge and experience of the people who have shaped California’s success in teen sexual health is often lost. While we can’t reverse the cuts at this time, we CAN find ways to work together so that all this valuable knowledge doesn’t disappear. We have to find a way to perpetuate the lessons that we’ve learned, so that when funding does return for teen parenting, pregnancy and STI prevention we’re ready to start right away!
The first part of this event will be on September 27th (the day we were originally going to hold the Main conference) from 2-4PM. To participate in this critical discussion (and I hope you all will), dial:
